About Port Said
Port Said is one of the three famous Suez Canal cities, along with Suez and Ismailia. Located on the Mediterranean coast, it overlooks the Suez Canal, specifically at its northern entrance.
The Suez Canal also runs through the city, separating the governorate's districts from the city center and Port Fouad, the city's last district.
The city covers a vast area of 1,344,961 square kilometers and includes many famous neighborhoods and districts, as well as numerous historical sites.
Furthermore, the city holds significant historical importance due to its role in the wars of the 1960s and 1970s. Therefore, Port Said witnesses many important national events, most notably Victory Day, which is celebrated annually on December 23.
The city's name is derived from its location as a coastal port on the Suez Canal. Furthermore, its development began during the reign of Khedive Muhammad Said Pasha, the ruler of Egypt, and the new city was named after him.
